About the catalogue

Keepers of the Catalogue

An independent desk. No advertisers, no dealers' commissions, no institutional sponsor. The work is to describe, number and cross-reference — accurately.

What the catalogue is

Catalogpitallynestl is a reference on vintage printed trade and mail-order catalogues, written for collectors and researchers. It is organised the way an archive would organise it: four numbered entries, a cross-reference register, and an enquiries register.

It is operated by Catalogpitallynestl Archive Ltd, a small company registered in England and Wales. It is not affiliated with any retailer, publisher, auction house or institution named in its pages.

The three desks

Work is divided by function, not by person. Each desk signs off its own part of every entry.

Describing Desk

Item records, dating evidence and the numbering scheme set out in Entry 02.

Conservation Desk

Storage and handling guidance in Entry 03, checked against published standards.

Reference Desk

Sources, institutions and the cross-reference register; final fact-check.

Method and corrections

  1. Every fact is traced to a published source or a physical item.
  2. Uncertain dates are marked as inferred, with the evidence.
  3. Corrections are logged with the date and the entry number, never silently overwritten.
  4. No item is appraised; no dealer is recommended for payment.
